Joannas 2009 pickHousekeeping was very courtious. Staff is very eager to satisfy customer needs and special requests. I have recommended this vacation to all my co-workers, family, and friends. We are planning to make this a yearly family event. This hotel is perfect. You have privacy, easy access to beach, great places close by to shop and dine.
Travelers tip on local attractionsLots of shops and resturants. Everthing you need for vacationing is easily accessable.Rating:5
Great for familiesThis hotel has something for every one. A small pool for toddlers, a grotto bar for the adults, and a play area for the rest. Great beach front.Rating:3
great pools and beach butThe pools and beach front were great and had beautiful views. The rooms however were tiny. We had two suitcases and could only open one at a time, they had to be stacked to fit anywhere. The cafe had an ok breakfast buffet nothing special. I would stay here again but wait until I could trust my girls to have their own room. If you only plan to sleep in the room and bring very little with you it will be great.Rating:4
Lots of amenities for the moneyThis hotel offered a nice splash park for the kids and a great pool with a waterfall. Unfortunately, they didnt allow kids in any kind of diapers, including swim diapers, in the waterfall pool. If you have a toddler this is a problem. There is a second pool for swimming, a garden area, and a beautiful beachfront. We spent most of our time in a beach chair (additional fee but worth it) and the kids played in the sand. The room service was good and the breakfast buffet was tasty and reasonable. There was a refrigerator, a microwave, and a safe in the room. Its a nice family hotel for the money.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayPack a lunch for the beach and eat fried seafood at night. Check the weather before you go - for rain & hurricanes.Rating:4
Very nice, would return.Right on beach, very nice garden area, and great pools. Food was good and priced good also. And good location; easy in and out. Boardwalk was right next door; good food and fun, and no noise back to the hotel.
Travelers tip on nightlifeGo to the boardwalk !!!!Rating:5
extrmely nice hotel room not as big as id hopedour stay was overall very pleasant only dislike was the double room. Was a little smaller than i had hoped, though we made it work.Workers were very nice, service was friendly and quick.Rating:4
Nice pool areaEverything was fine. The only thing that we really needed was a microwave in the room. Some buildings have them and others didnt. Also didnt have a elevator in the bldg we were in,so had to carry everything up.Rating:5
Would Definitely Go BackHotel was older, but extremely clean and well maintained. Rooms are small, but spent the extra to get a pool room with a balcony and that helped a lot with space. Microwave and fridge. in pool-view rooms, a bonus. Beach TOO Crowded due to large amt of rental chairs/umbrellas right on top of each other. Bring your own shade and chairs, so you can move away from them and spread out. Boardwalk is next door with some restaurants and shops. Alvins Gift shop at hotel very reasonable for everything.Rating:5
July 21-24, 2009We enjoyed our room... OUr kids enjoyed it as well we enjoyed the pool the playground and the fact that there was 3 pools heated regular with a bar in the pool and a kiddie pool. There is also a gift shop in the pool area... Our a/c was broke in our room when we first checked in I called the front desk and within minutes they changed it out....Awesome hotel stay would recommened it highly...Rating:5
Cant wait to go backHotel was great. It was very clean with plenty to keep the kids entertained. The location was awesome and we could walk to restaurants so we didnt even have to get in the car the whole time we were there. We will definitely go back!Rating:5
Very ImpressedThe hotel was very clean, very kid friendly. We couldnt have asked for more.We had a great time.Rating:4
Will visit againIt was a little pricey as compared to other hotels, but the view from our room was great. The hotel was clean and we felt comfortable and safe there. We would stay there again.
Travelers tip on diningIf you want to be close to restaurants, you will not want to stay here. You will have to drive into Ft. Walton or Destin to get to most of the restaurants. It is hard to turn left out of the hotel because of traffic.Rating:4
Good experience...good locationStayed at the hotel many times. Not the biggest rooms...but always clean and well maintained. Pool was clean, grounds were well taken care of.Rating:3
OKAYThis is a good family budget hotel. If you are watching your pocketbook and dont care if you are staying in a nice room this hotel is good. Outside areas are great. Inside hotel rooms are old and dingy but it was clean and you are at the beach so you shouldnt be in your room much anyway. Big plus is you dont have to get in your car if you dont want too. Plenty of dining and nightlife next door at the Boardwalk!
Travelers tip on nightlifeHowl at the Moon next door in the boardwalk was awesome!!Rating:2
Great Place to StayWe were very pleased with hotel. The amenities of the property were just what we wanted, and the proximity to the boardwalk and the pier made for a pleasurable experience. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted to enjoy the beauty of the Emerald Coast.
Travelers tip on diningLots of great dinning experiences to be had in the area. If you go to AJs be prepared for the excessive noise level, the food was marginal for the price. We really liked the food at Anglers and the Crab Trap better.Rating:3
Great location to the beach! The hotel is right on the beach. We had a room overlooking the ocean and we could see the dolphins. We could walk down the beach to several restraunts that were very good. The swimming pools were great. We were there with two 7 year olds and a 9 year old. They loved the pools and so did we. On Friday night, the hotel showed a move outside by the pool. The only part of our stay that was less than perfect was the actual hotel room. It was very small (room 5034). Our bathroom door did not close and my husband had to work on the toliet to get it to flush. The bathroom was also very tiny. We were pleased to have a refrigerator and a microwave in the room. We also loved the balcony. We ate breakfast on the balcony each morning and watched the dolphins. We were not in the hotel room very much but when we were, it was tight. There were only 3 of us in our room. We would possibly stay there again because of the location to the beach and the swimming pools. They had a waterfall that was really cool and they also had another pool that was warm and then a hot tub. The hotel also provided arts and crafts and other children activities during the day. The only down side was the hotel room itself.
Travelers tip on local attractionsI would stay in a room facing the ocean (at least on the 2nd floor) with a balcony. It was worth the money to have the extra room and for the view.Rating:3
Nice Hotel -Decent PriceHotel is nice they take good care of the grounds and the pools are very nice. The rooms are a little out dated, parking is bad at night, and the internet access is slow. But who goes to the beach to sit on the internet and in a hotel room.Rating:4
The kids absolutely loved itIt was difficult to get the kids to go to the beach with the number of amazing pools that the hotel had. The only complaint that I had was the size of the bathroom. It was difficult to get more than one person in at a time. The room was nothing special but really all we did was sleep and shower there so it didnt matter all that much to us. I would recommend this hotel for anyone with kids.Rating:5
Had A Blast! This was our 2nd trip to this hotel. We requested an early check-in on an upper beachfront floor. We were given a room on ground level which had NO VIEW because of a fence - you couldnt even see the beach - so BEWARE! We were promptly moved to the 4th floor with a beautiful view. My 6 year old loved the splash garden, my 14 year old loved the waterfalln pool, and my hubby loved the grotto bar. They have great kid activities at the pool. The pool is beautiful and the grotto bar makes great pina coladas! There are nice gardens with winding paths all around the pool - very pretty & peaceful. My family had a wonderful time. Very Child Friendly! Just a short drive to Silver Sands Outlet. There are souvenir shops everywhere.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayDont get a beachfront ground floor room - you just as well get a pool view because you cant see the beach.Rating:4
Another Great Family VacationWeve been visiting the Resort since the late 1980s as teenagers! Although the rooms could use a bit of updating, the hotel, its location and the unique waterfall mountain pool make it a favorite vacation spot. Well be back again next year!!!Rating:5
peaceful paradiseour entire family was pleased with my choice in hotels this time...thank goodness!! its not easy to find a place that the teenagers cant get enough of and the "older generation"-as my son says- doesnt want to leave either. we have already booked another room for august ;)
Travelers tip on local attractionslocated directly beside the boardwalk- full of restaraunts, gift shops and night clubs.....appealing to all agesRating:5
FabulousI would go back to this resort anytime. We had a wonderful time.Rating:4
Good - not great - but worth the view (and time in the pool)Overall I would rate our hotel experience good. When we checked in the front desk person was not very welcoming - they had just had a big storm there and we walked in to the lobby to find a few buckets sitting around to catch the water dripping from a few areas of the ceiling. It wasnt that big of a deal since we werent staying in the lobby. The room was small for four people (2 adults, 2 teenagers) but we went for the beach so it didnt matter too much. The view from the room was excellent! After reading reviews this was why we chose this hotel, and it did live up to that expectation. The pool was clean and heated which made you want to stay all day out there. We stayed for 7 nights and housekeeping missed our room 3 of those days. When I called the front desk they sent someone to clean the room, but of coarse wouldnt give us anything extra for this trip to compensate. After a full day at the beach you want to walk in to a clean room. So, even when you dont have the do not disturb sign on the door - always call down to the desk and tell them you would like your room cleaned that day when you leave.
Travelers tip on local attractionsGreat place-about 15 mins away(over bridge to right)in Destin-Harbor Walk. Go snorkeling or on a dolphin cruise. New restaurant @ the end of the shops upstairs (far right side)has great food & prices.Destin Snorkel & the big yellow Dolphin Cruise boat are best priced & friendly. Travel an hr away to Panama City-it is worth the drive for the large shopping cntr-plus you can find more shells in PCB than you can in Destin. Shell Island in PCB is worth the trip if you can go all day.Rating:5
Wonderful Hotel, will defnintely return, unbelieveable amenities!!The Ramada Plaza Beach Resort is a terrific hotel right on the beach. It is extremely convenient and has unbelieveable amenities including a huge splash garden for children and multiple pools and spas. Great beach side bar and grill, good breakfast buffet, and the staff is very accomodating and helpful. I will definitely return.Rating:4
Great stay! The hotel is older but in good condition. The room are just basic room, nothing fancy, but you are paying for the location (which is very good!) Anytime we asked for anything (light bulb out, extra blanket), the staff responded immediately and everybody was friendly. The standard rooms are motel-type and either face the parking or the gardens, which are lovely. The tower rooms face the pool/garden or the beach. We stayed in a third floor beachfront room and had a great view ... a small balcony with two chairs and a side table -- definitely worth the extra bucks for the gulf view. The first-floor poolside rooms in the tower had the pool right off the patio -- so if the pool is your thing, its pretty neat to be able to basically swim right out your door. Beach was well maintained: saw a tractor with a device to clean the trash out of the sand early in the morning twice during our 4 night stay. The hotel had plenty of separate areas on the grounds so it never felt crowded -- beach, waterfall pool, smaller pool, kids "water park" area. Only ate at the hotel once and it was for breakfast -- lovely dining room, good service but the food was not good, so dont bother. Lots of good places to eat in Destin (6 or 7 miles). Recommend the Fishermans Wharf. I used other travelers opinions in selecting this hotel so I knew what areas might be a problem, but our experience was a good one. We enjoyed the hotel, and will definitely go again.
Travelers tip on local attractionsTake a walk on the pier ($1 per person). We watched people fish and saw 3 dolphins -- they were stealing large bait off the hooks.
