Great hotel for the priceGreat location with view of the water. Quiet but close enough to Gaslamp and Little Italy. Short walk to trolley station. Room was very pleasant and clean.Rating:4
Great LocationIf you are traveling to San Diego to travel on a Cruise Ship, this hotel is perfect. The Cruise Ship Terminal is just across the street.
Travelers tip on diningLittle Italy is within walking distance, a lot of fantastic restaurants.Rating:4
Nice place to stayMy husband and I stayed recently and were very satisfied with this hotel. Nothing spectacular but it was a great room for the price. Nice views and close to lots of different places to shop, eat, and take in the sights. Housekeeping and maintenance staff were very nice and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayFor $5/day you can get a transit pass that will give you unlimited access to the trams and buses. We did this twice and used it to go to places that were a little farther than we would like to walk. We used our laptop to look up routes and plan our trip, but if you dont have one with you, there are 2 computers in the main lobby that you can look up and print things!Rating:4
I would go backI would definitely stay at Holiday Inn on the Bay again. It is a great location and everything is easily accessible. I had a balcony with a view of the city, which was great. The only thing that really bothered me was the train blowing their horn all the time, it gets a little old after a while. The beds couldve been more comfortable and they forgot to make up the room on the first morning there but i got a great deal so i cant complain. Oh and cant forget about the smoke alarm going off at about midnight for no reason at all. Stayed on for about 2 mins and then shut itself off. Nodody called to check up on this either. Kinda weird.
Travelers tip on recreational activitiesI rented a bike from a bike shop right by my hotel and rode up to OB and hung out for a while. Then rode up to Mission Beach and PB, it was an easy ride and you get to see a lot on the way.Rating:4
Great Hotel-Poor ConciergeWe loved our hotel stay. Even though we had a "city scape" view, it was at the end of the hall and so it was really more of a "bay view". You could see the USS Midway and part of the bay out our window. It was quiet at night. The room was very clean. The people servicing our room were very friendly and helpful. We asked for more shampoo and an additional luggage stand and they brought them right up. The only problem was every time we asked for help from the concierge we felt like we got poor advise. We asked for a recommendation as to where to eat in Old Town. The response was " I dont eat mexican food. Im sure they are all alike. How can mexican food be different." She was very condescending. Later we asked if we could take public transportation to Sea World. We were told "You could, but you would have to ride with those locals. By the way. You can take public transportation. You take the red trolley train to Old Town then get on bus number 9. It takes you right there. You take bus number 8 back and then the trolley back to the hotel. The station is just one block in back of the hotel. We found the location of the hotel wonderful. It was centrally located. We didnt have to rent a car. We took the train or pedicabs or walked. I would stay there again.
Travelers tip on local attractionsBe sure to take the harbor cruise. We took the 2 hr. one and then went back the next day and did it again with some friends. It was relaxing and you saw a lot. Seaport Village is great and so is the USS Midway. If the Padres are playing, go to a game. It was a lot of fun. You can get inexpensive tickets on the internet. I suggest you take a pedicab into the gas lamp district. It was a lot of fun. Also, the Fish Market is a great place to eat and you will love the statues along the way.Rating:5
Very convenient!!!It was very convenient staying at Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay since we use the water transportation a lot to go to Coronado beach. The service at the hotel was very good. I will not include again breakfast since there are other options very close to the hotel. I recommend it.Rating:3
Good locationGood view, located in a excelent areaRating:5
Cant wait to go backVery nice, closed to attraction, good price, good food, trolly and bus services are very close.Rating:4
Nice, but same everything for less money, 5 minutes away.I had a nice stay and staff were nice. I would not stay again because for the same room I can stay at Holiday Inn - Bayside and get parking ($22/day here at On The Bay) for free. They are less than 5 minutes apart by car. Both are on water with walking distance restaurants. No advantage to this location.Rating:3
Less than optimal stayParking for this hotel was extra, something we did not know about until after we had booked this hotel. There was not a refrigerator or microwave in our room, which is something standard for most hotels now. There was no ventilation fan in the bathroom. We would not stay in this hotel again.Rating:4
Love San DiegoNice bay view. Ate breakfast while sitting outside of the restaurant located at the hotel every am. Breakfast was very good and reasonable. Dinner menu did not have much of a selection for my husband but was also reasonable. We took several enjoyable rides up the coast to the beaches in the area. The zoo was great. Parking a little expensive, but it sure was nice to have a rental car and to be able to go when you want. We love San Diego and would stay there again.
Travelers tipRent a car.Rating:3
Hotel was ok but not aware about parking costParking available on the streets with meter parking with two hour limit. Otherwise you could park in the hotel parking lot for $22 a day. Pool is small and best to swim in middle of the day otherwise its gets shaded and cold in the afternoon.Rating:5
Great location, will go back.We stayed there several years ago and liked it, so we were happy to go back again. The location makes it easy to get around and it has good views. We will go back again.Rating:3
Its ok...the view is great, the motel is below average.Nice enough if youre used to an average hotel. The view of the Bay is very nice, however the motel itself is below average. It is what Id call "mature" or "worn"...very dated look. Its not what Id call dirty, but not sparkling clean either. On the plus side, the entire hotel staff, from front desk to restaurant to bar, was very nice.Rating:5
Holiday Inn on the BayThis hotel will give you a truly urban feel. It sits directly across from the bay, the maritime museum and the cruise ship terminal. It is within walking distance of all downtown activities, if you dont mind walking but also close to bus, trolley and train access. For those facing the downtown side you will get the full urban experience, a great view of downtown and train whistles, the Amtrak station is two blocks away and the line is a joint use venture with the trolley, Amtrak and freight. All in all, the hotel was nice, the staff friendly and accomodating. I would stay here again, train whistles and all.
Travelers tip on diningIf you get a chance go to Sushi Deli at Second and Broadway next to the Spreckles Theatre. The food is constiently good and they have great specials (lunch only). Expect it to be crowded and expect a line. Open for lunch from 11:30 to 3 and for dinner from 5:30 to 10. They do not take reservations. Its a first come first served, youll put your name on the list.Rating:4
ExcellentGreat place to stay if you are visiting San Diego. Its close to all the attractions and have good on location places to grab a bit. The harbor view rooms would have been perfect. RecommendedRating:3
Good location but sagging mattressesLocatin was excellent, pool was nice, phones in the room did not work, sheets were very nice & clean but mattresses were sagging.Rating:5
best htel by the bay in san diegothe place was in great shape rooms were great, except the train that went by at night, other wise a great place to stay by the bay and seeing the lights at night.
Travelers tip on local attractionsyou are right by the USS MIDWAY, as well as old ships and cruise linesRating:3
OK, Not GreatThe hotel is fine, nothing more. It is clean, convenient and affordable. The mattress, however, was uncomfortable. We booked a pool view room and got a rooftop view room, and a sorry, we already filled those rooms up response.
Travelers tip on saving a few bucksIf you are looking for a place likely to have a decent price, is located well, and dont have a back that objects to the mattress, this is an ok place to stay.Rating:5
Great locationGreat place for a quick get-away. The view is terrific and the location perfect -- walking distance to many fun and interesting attractions in San Diego. Also, the adjoining restaurant is very nice with good food and service.Rating:2
It might be near the water but looks are deceiving. The hotel does not look that great from the outside but the entry way is nice. My bed had hair in it. They dont do a good job on cleaning the rooms when you stay 4 days they just make up the bed. And if you want more than one towel you have to ask. It was an ok stay nothing to brag about. Close to the airport.
Travelers tip on diningThe restaurant next door to the hotel is very expensive and the food is not that great!Rating:5
Perfect LocationThis hotel is in the absolute best location. It is within walking distance of downtown shopping and restaurants. It is a short cab ride from many San Diego attractions. The only time we needed to rent a car was for our trip to La Jolla and the Wild Animal Park. Also a great view of the Bay and easy access to the ferry to Coronado. Would stay again in a heartbeat.Rating:2
Not impressedWhile the hotel was clean, it wasnt very nice. Room was very small, facility seemed old and the train going by the hotel kept us awake each night. Our card keys had to be reswiped three times and we had to pay for parking each day.Rating:5
great value hotelabsolutely excellent hotel for the money. would stay there again in a heartbeat .closea to everything. excellent concierge service very helpful.beautiful views especially at night.we had agreat time.Rating:3
Good Transportation ServiceTo and from the local airport.
